ABOUT ADVISOR TAX SERVICES
Advisor Tax Services is an 8 year old firm located in Stowe, Vermont. Owner Steve Cairns has been
preparing taxes and advising clients for over 15 years. In 2004, he passed a rigorous
2 day exam administered by the Internal Revenue service which qualified him to become an Enrolled Agent.
What is an Enrolled Agent?
In 2005, Steve became a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor by passing a comprehensive certification test.
He is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, the National Association of Tax Professionals
and is currently a director and recently elected President of the Vermont Tax Practitioners Association.
Prior to opening his own business Steve managed 2 H&R Block offices in Vermont
for several years. For 3 years he taught their 11 week Basic Income Tax course plus several advanced courses.
In 2007 Steve became an instructor at the University of Vermont Tax School, an annual event attended by hundreds of CPAs, tax attorneys and enrolled agents.
Steve has testified on tax policy before the Vermont House Ways and Means Committee. He is a graduate of Cornell University and
has a Master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Co-owner Cindy Cairns has been with Advisor Tax Services since the business' inception.
She worked for H&R Block for 3 tax seasons in the Waterbury office. She is a member of the Vermont Tax Practitioner's Association.
Cindy earned her MBA at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts concentratiing in Accounting and Entrepreneurship courses.
She has worked in a variety of professions including real estate and small business consulting. She completed her undergraduate degree
at the Unversity of Massachusetts.
In 2009 the Lamoille Valley Chamber of Commerce awarded her its Volunteer of the Year Award.
